I am a visual artist and arts educator based on my professional practice as a geologist (MEarthSci (Oxon), MSci, FGS). I specialise in fine art painting, inspired by relationships with landscape, deep time geology and lost and ghostly space.
I am exploring the cognitive nature of observation, both in geology (in the practice of field sketching) and in fine art observation. I am convinced of the link between the two, and that we can use fine art techniques to improve the quality, brevity and insight of our field observations as geologists.
I am an experienced science educator and outreach worker, in particular around girls and women in sciences. I teach classes in conjunction with the Geological Society and art collective London Drawing Group, and am available for freelance teaching to adults or in schools.
